What is GaN?

GaN chargers seem to be the hype these days, with many renown brands adding them to their product line. But what exactly is GaN?

Silicon had been the go-to material for high-technology electronics. Gallium Nitride (GaN) is the new kid on the block that can outperform Silicon. 

GaN is able to handle much higher voltages and temperatures than Silicon. It also allows faster current flow and lesser energy waste. 

This efficiency enables us to develop chargers that are 50% smaller. For instance, the AUKEY PA-B4 Omnia Duo 65W has 2 fast charging USB-C ports but it is still around 50% smaller than Apple's single port 61W charger. 

Here's another good news! We are nowhere near the limits of what GaN is capable of achieving. In 5 years' time, GaN could be turning up in places not yet conceived.
